The Ashley County District Court has subject matter jurisdiction over misdemeanor violations of State Law and local ordinances, preliminary felony cases and civil cases involving contracts, damaged personal property and recovery of personal property in matters less than $25,000. Our Small Claims Division provides a forum in which citizens representing themselves may resolve contracts and personal property disputes involving less than $5,000. The Court is further authorized to hear certain other matters including:
- Pro se Uncontested Divorces;
- Forcible Entry and Detainers and Unlawful Detainer;
- Orders of Protection;
- Petitions for mental or drug and alcohol commitments; and
- Preliminary Felony matters including issuance of Search and Arrest Warrants and Criminal First Appearances.
The Court may also hear other Civil, Domestic Relations and Probate cases upon consent of all parties.
